Jagannath eBook Kerry Alan Denney

Review will have spoilers:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::This review will get hateful comments, but here it is: the sample is much better than the rest of the book. Essentially we have bad-a**ed teens who do stupid things that mostly save the day, friendship conquers all, the alien invader monster becomes less and less scary as time goes by, the villains are cut from whole cloth, not a single complex or dynamic character....and indomitable character who loses most of the men she loves, but we don't really know enough about 'em to give a hoot.

It's frothy, light, would be kinda fun if it weren't so darned peppy. You know pretty much 50 pages in, the good guys are gonna not only win, but they're gonna "KICK A**!!!"----it's much more like a pep rally than a book concerning a battle for survival.

The blood of the monster combined with the blood of a super miraculous little girl who is invulnerable to the monster yield the salvation of humanity. Yay. Whee.

Predictable, not scary, if there was suspense, uhm.....I missed it.

Again, a light frothy read. HAD this book been marketed and advertised as that, I wouldn't have bought it, BUT it would have deserved 4 stars for being consistent with the blurbs.

End of Spoilers:::: Book is well written, the author's writing is solid. He cribs from some classics, WB Yeats, "Second Coming," and "Cheeseburgers in Paradise". I really don't like when authors give a shout out like that without noting in text that they're in some way a kind of hommage. Kinda smacks through the 4th wall, but still, very competent writing.

Jagannath eBook Kerry Alan Denney Reviews

I'm exhausted! I'm always in the mood for a good post-apocalyptic story and I was so not disappointed with this one from Mr. Denney! Just a fantastic romp through the wasteland of what was once the USA, trying to survive an ancient horror that had been awakened.

Loved the characters, especially Lilly. If you don't end up just wanting to adopt her for your own, you ain't got a heart. This girl has survived the worst that humans, nature, and a monster from the very pit of hell itself has to offer. And to top it off, she has hope in her heart. Just an amazing character!

The action is fairly non-stop and I really wish I had had the time to read it in one go. I'd imagine it'd be akin to taking part in one of those Spartan Races - it's a good kind of burn though.
Jagannath hooked me from the first page. Mr. Denney does a very smart thing and starts this excellent sci-fi thriller well into the storyline. The creature has already come, task forces are well under way. He throws us right into the mix, introducing his smart, complex characters as they prepare for another mission. This one a rescue of Earth's last, best hope. He involves the reader in the same whirlwind of tension, suspense, and action that these characters feel. Brilliant!

The monster of this book--the Reaper--is the most inventive creature I've encountered in more than a decade. With its terrifying and unique abilities, it zeros into our worst fears. Themes of loss, desperation, and paranoia resonate with a poignancy few post-apocalyptic thrillers manage.

Jagannath is a tour de force--so fun, so fast, so clever and scary that I couldn't put it down.
This unfortunately is either a heavy-handed parody of 50s sci-fi, or fan fiction that really shouldn't be published. The male hero has "ice-blue eyes." The female protagonist is a spunky redhead with alluring emerald green eyes. The (of course black) sidekick is 300 pounds of muscle who "could have been a linebacker in the now defunct NFL". The hero and protagonist have sexual tension on page 2 or 3, and plan to have little renegades until she "bursts". Really. This cliche fest all happens within the first 10 pages or so, and that's all the farther I got. I know it's a lot easier to criticize than put yourself out there, so credit for that.
You know when the first line of a novel consists of a large black tentical exploding from a wall, you’re in for a fast paced, wild ride. The Jagannath provides just that. It has been a while since I have read a science fiction story, most of what I read is horror or thriller. But I was very pleased with my first in while tread onto Sci-fi turf. The story takes place in the future and a giant shape shifting creature is devouring mankind - pretty cool so far- but mankind has regrouped and is now starting to attack and test the creature for weakneses. This is the part that really drew me into the story. So many “end of the world” storylines show us, mankind, falling apart much too fast, and much too completely in my oppinion. Maybe I am just so full of hope for us, but I feel that if the end came, be it through zombies, aliens or what not, we would band together and stand against it much more than what is depicted in many stories. That’s just what we’ve done in Jagannath.

The character’s in Jagannath range from soldiers to civilains and all are well crafted. There’s Lily, a little girl you’ll grow to love. I won’t give anything away, but it’s made clear that she seems to hold the answers of beating this thing and the story evolves around searching for her. The search is led by a soldier, Kimi. Another character I enjoyed reading about, but not my favorite. My favorite character might be considered an odd choice, but I really liked the way the auhtor handled him. His name is Cooper and he’s a dirt bag. Again, I don’t want to give anything away, but if you read the story, I t hink you’ll like the way it was handled as well. All in all, Jagannath is definitly worth your time reading. It moves fast, has a lot of action, but also focuses on strong character development. It’s got everthing the sci-fi kid in you will love, hovercycles, holgrafic videos, wrist mounted gel guns (gel being a weapon they developed to hurt the Jagannath), hoverships, and of course a menacing creaturing trying to destory mankind.
