What’s it About? Wild Child Chloe doesn’t want to settle down like her sisters and seems to revel in riling up sheriff Sawyer Thompson. When her latest stunt gets her into trouble Chloe can’t help but poke at Sawyer a little bit. But then she can’t seem to take a step without Sawyer letting her know he’s keeping an eye on her. With Sawyer constantly in her way and on her mind Chloe starts to wonder if making a permanent decision might be worth facing her fears.Yay or Nay? Yay.
Why? Chloe and her sisters haven’t exactly endeared themselves to me as characters and while I liked Head Over Heels I’m glad to be moving on from these three to other characters.
Chloe did grow as a character from the first time she appeared to now in her own story but I still felt like her free spiritedness was actually immaturity. Chloe did change how she reacted to her sisters’ well intentioned meddling and I saw a significant growth in the three sisters’ relationship. Oddly enough the most endearing thing about Chloe is her willingness to put her own safety on the line in order to try and do the right thing. That’s something new in her personality because she was a selfish little child in the beginning. Chloe wants to be a dependable person, she wants to be reliable but at the same time she was afraid.
I actually liked Sawyer even though he was a very straitlaced guy. He was dedicated to walking the straight and narrow in order to make up for some trouble he got into when he was younger. He was dependable, honest, and had a hidden sense of humor that I didn’t think came out with anyone other than Jax and Ford. To me Sawyer had the natural characteristics that brought out the best in Chloe. Sawyer was once a wild child like Chloe but through a series of events learned to balance out his life better but at the same time he didn’t judge Chloe’s need for freedom, just her lack of concern for her safety.
As a couple, I liked the unique challenges Chloe’s asthma presented in her relationship with Sawyer. I thought her asthma would be a total downer and bring down the light and steamy vibe of the story but it didn’t. It showed just how considerate Sawyer could be and how determined Chloe could be. I liked that the chemistry between them started in the first book as antagonism on Chloe’s part and a reluctant attraction on Sawyer’s. Shalvis handled their differences well and without making it into an over dramatized act. I did feel like the romance lacked a little or maybe it’s because I didn’t fully connect to Chloe that I felt like the romance was just run of the mill despite the unique circumstances.

Head Over Heels Lucky Harbor Book 3 eBook Jill Shalvis Reviews
Chloe is the stereotypical younger sister; wild and crazy, with a healthy dose of her deceased mother’s wanderlust. With the bond with her estranged sisters growing stronger, that wanderlust has been waning, but she feels a need to contribute to the inn like Tara does with her cooking and Maddie with her organization skills. Her proposition of a day spa is met with hesitation from her older sisters because of her past, and her temper gets her into hot water on a regular basis with the town sheriff.
Sparks fly as the high spirited Chloe and the straight laced Sawyer are in constant contact with mishaps and trouble. Their attraction is apparent to everyone but themselves until they finally get together in a mating of epic proportions.
Scenes are hot and steamy, to the point of needing a fan to cool off if a cold shower isn’t accessible. Definitely not for the faint of heart! An excellent light read with a strong plot and hints of the next set of three in there to keep people interested in the town of Lucky Harbor.
Just discovered this author. My first read and won’t be my last. The dialogue and interaction between the characters are stellar. No syrupy sappy words to wade through. This author totally nails the male specie. *grin*. Some authors write about guys who could just as well be a girl. Not this author. Mmmm mmm mm. Love the contrast of all male and all female.
If perhaps there’s a tiny flaw in the transition of scenes it can be overlooked. Sometimes there’s a bit of whiplash which could be helped by a word or two or even a sentence to help the flow.
Immaturity in relationships many times is cured by courage. Merely the courage to fight the flight paradigm Chloe and Sawyer knew of relationships growing up. They had the courage to say yes to relationship and roots instead of merely long moments in others lives.
You can be whimsical, playful and spontaneous and still claim maturity. Abandoning relationships is immature and Chloe learned to stick!
I am giving this book five stars even with small flaws because I grade on the curve. *smile*
