I love this book - I read it in the 80's, and I read it again in 2015, and it still holds my attention. The visuals are almost poetic, it covers action, empathy, politics, betrayal, and demonstrates a complex understanding of the economic power structure that is shaping our world, shaping our future. It sings to me.... I'll read it again.
Great cyberpunk. I am not sure if I like this book or Neuromancer better. If you like cyberpunk, you will enjoy this. Somehow even today, the vision of the cyberspace still feels fresh and futuristic. As with most sci-fi books there are flaws but that is to be expected. If you like this book, follow up with Solip System. It is a great short finish to the story. Cyberpunk is actually best in short form. I enjoyed the story and how it all connects and mostly the sister/brother relationship and how that ends. I really like the strong Cyberpunk woman. Just leaves me with one question, Sarah or Molly?
This is my first exposure to Cyber Punk, and I really enjoyed it. Read it because it was the inspiration for Cyberpunk 2077. Take note, I bought this book first, then the other 6 Hardwired books. Be warned, the other 6 "books" are just this book broken up into 6 parts.
I'd been daydreaming of armored hovercars for most of my adult life before I happened across Hardwired recently, read it, and realized that I had read it twenty years before. It had left an indelible impression on my mind, my writing, and how I think about cyberpunk novels and the future.

Walter Jon William's writing is amazing, and the imagery is astounding. It's an equal of William Gibson's Neuromancer and Neal Stephenson's Snow Crash. It's stood up well to time, and it was extremely enjoyable to reread. (In fact, I've read it twice in the last year, I was so excited to rediscover it.)
I've been reading a lot lately, and to be honest a lot of it has been dross. This isn't. It's pure 100% quality. In fact, I'm gutted that I have finished; it's the sort of book you want to go on forever, immersing you in a well written, coherent world. A must read, if you are into science fiction.
This first installment had the desired effect Immediately upon finishing the first few chapters I bought the complete novel (cheap at twice the price). In the next few weeks, I'll be reading everything this author has written. This book has weathered a lot of changes in technology, especially the language we now use to describe such things. The technological concepts presented in this book are still (as of this moment) fiction, and we would talk about them in different terms these days, but that doesn't matter. This is well written, well paced, a good balance of character development and story telling, and a really great read.
What can I say about this story that has not already been said? It's one of my top 5 novels EVER and I've read thousands, in many genres. What Walter achieved here is a multi layered story where the science doesn't override the personalities of his tragic, flawed and deeply relatable characters. I loved it the first time I read it and I still love it after re-reading it years later.
For the life of me I can't understand why it hasn't been made into a movie, but it's probably just as well. I don't think any studio would get it right.
